Inclusion criteria

Certain criteria must be met to qualify for laboratory investigations to be paid for:

  • The rabbit must be a privately owned pet i.e. not from an establishment keeping rabbits for sale, meat, fur, breeding or exhibition. Rabbits in rescue centres qualify.
  • Post-mortem examination and collection of samples must take place within 6 hours of death
  • A specific set of tissues (heart, lung, liver, spleen and kidney) must be collected and fixed in formol saline. Additional tissues can be included too.
  • The fixed samples must go to Abbey Veterinary Services with a form filled in online from this website
  • Informed consent from the owner must have been given.  
  • The results can be used for research projects.
