Cow parsley

The leaves of Cow Parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) are typical of many umbellifers such as Rough Chervil, Sweet Cicely or Ground Elder. All these plants are favourites with rabbits especially when the leaves are young. They are often found in verges and will regrow after mowing so more crops of new leaves can be picked throughout the summer. Owners often worry about picking umbelliforous plants because of the risk of picking hemlock (Conium maculatum). This is a rare poisonous plant that usually grows in damp places. It is characterised by blotchy red marks on the stem.
