Sprouting broccoli

Sprouting broccoli (typically purple but can be white) is a cut and come again crop so with a long cropping season. There are many varieties. The plants grow to be tall and the leaves, as well as the sprouting stems, can be used to feed rabbits. The plant is not as easy to grow as some other vegetables as the seedlings are very susceptible to damage from mice, pigeons, slugs and snails. Germinating the seeds in a greenhouse and potting in individual pots until it is about 15cm tall is recommended before it is planted out. Once the plant is established, it is prolific.
